KAPIT: A booklet on Key Performance Index (KPI) for community leaders and chairman of the Village Security and Development Committee (JKKK) under Bukit Mabong District was launched at Kapit Civic Centre yesterday.

Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Jemut Masing officiated at the event.

Speaking at the function, Masing who is also the Minister for Infrastructure and Ports Development cum Baleh assemblyman commended Bukit Mabong District Office for being the first in the state to initiate the launching of KPI for community leaders and ‘tuai rumah’ who are also JKKK chairmen.

“Each year all the JKKKs in Baleh constituency are given financial allocation, project or grant irrespective of their political inclination. However some JKKK chairmen never told the people of the grant or projects given. Some would even claim they were never given any grant or projects. But when I refer to my record of list of projects, in fact they had been given the allocation or projects. That is why it is important for the District Office to guide the JKKKs to manage their account well,” said Masing.

He called on the JKKKs to carry out their duties responsibly.

“The JKKK committee members are elected by the people. Those not elected should not create division among the longhouse community but to accept the choice of the people. As a good leader our role is to unite the people and not to divide them,” Masing pointed out.

At the function Masing announced a grant of RM20,000 to Rando Bukit Mabong club to finance its activities.

Hulu Rajang MP Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong, who also spoke at the function announced a similar grant of RM15,000 to the club.

Also present at the event were Kapit Resident Nyurak Keti, a political secretary to the chief minister Nicholas Kudi Jantai, Bukit Mabong District Officer Douglas Pungga Lawang and community leaders.
