KUALA LUMPUR: Super League team Kuala Lumpur clinched their first victory in the Challenge Cup Championship after defeating Selangor United 3-1 in Group B action at the Kuala Lumpur Football Stadium in Cheras, here on Thursday night.
The victory, however, did not change Kuala Lumpur’s position as they remain third in Group B with three points after two matches. Brazilian import Paulo Josue scored the opening goal of the game for Kuala Lumpur in the 13th minute with an exciting free-kick, and he got a brace in the 39th minute by easily prodding in a free-kick taken by Muhammad Irfan Zakaria.
Selangor United, however, reduced the deficit in the 79th minute through Nurshamil Abd Ghani who lobbed the ball over Kuala Lumpur goalkeeper Mohamad Faridzuean Kamaruddin. – Bernama
