KUCHING: The Kuching Autistic Association (KAA) is set to host its annual charity run, themed ‘Meow Autism Run 2025’ scheduled for April 13, 2025 at the Kuching South City Council (MBKS) foyer.

This marks the eighth edition of the charity run organised by KAA, aimed at raising funds and enhance awareness, as well as acceptance of the autism community.

The charity run will features two run categories which are the 3KM and 5KM Fun Run. Participants can sign up for one of three categories for the 3KM and 5KM Fun Run.

“Category A includes a medal, T-shirt, and bib, priced at RM45 for super early bird registration and RM50 for the early bird rate. While, Category B offers only a T-shirt and bib for RM30 during the super early bird registration period and RM35 at the early bird rate.

“Finally, Category C provides a medal and bib, available for RM20 during the super early bird registration and RM25 for the early bird rate.

“The super early bird promotion is available until this year Oct 23 and the early bird promotion will be offered until this year Dec,” it said.

It said in a press release issued by KAA on Monday (Oct 14).

For the record, the Annual Operating Cost for KAA’s Centre is about RM 1.3 million. Although the students do pay fees, the fees collected amount to about 30% of what is needed to run the Centre.

“The organisation aims to raise RM750,000 each year to continue providing vital services.

Established in 1998, KAA is a non-profit NGO dedicated to helping children and adults with autism realise their full potential and to live useful, independent and economically productive lives.

“Kuching Autistic Association’s Educational and Vocational Training Centre at Jln Desa Wira 15, Batu Kawa, is presently providing individualised special education and training for 160 children and adults with autism, aged between 2 years old and 44 years old with the help of 35 trained staff.

“In addition, KAA operates the Sunshine Hub Sheltered Workshop, where adults with autism are trained in gardening skills, housekeeping skills, artwork, beadwork, car wash, simple baking and cooking,” it said.

Besides, 2024 Meow Autism Run on April 28 has attracted 3,000 participants, including 200 children and families with autism.

Thus, KAA hopes to see even more participation this year from all sectors of the community, in support of autism awareness.
