KUCHING: The Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) has announced a postponement of the Kuching Car Free Morning programme, with DBKU mayor Hilmy Othman stating that the delay is to respect the holy month of Ramadan.
“The programme will begin sometime in May, right after Hari Raya Aidilfitri. I would like to ask everyone to participate in Kuching Car Free Morning once it is reopened.
“The programme is great for us, as it is very beneficial for our health and fosters social interaction,” he said during a visit to the Satok Ramadan Bazaar here on Tuesday (Mar 12).
He also took the opportunity to announce the upcoming Aidilfitri Bazaar 2024. The Satok Aidilfitri Bazaar will run from March 23 to April 9, featuring 130 hawkers selling various products along Jalan Satok.
“The other one is the Ramadan Unity Bazaar, scheduled from March 21 to April 7, and will see 80 hawkers selling various products across Plaza Merdeka, India Street Pedestrian Mall, and the Waterfront Kuching Hotel.”
The Kuching Car Free Morning programme, initiated in January 2022 by DBKU in collaboration with various government and private agencies, as well as communities, has been a recurring event held every Sunday during the first week of each month.
Starting in 2023, the programme expanded to twice a month, occurring on the first and third Sundays.
The primary objective is to reduce carbon dioxide emissions, provide space for social interaction and recreation for citizens, and contribute to environmental care.
Also present during the bazaar visit were Deputy Minister for Utility and Telecommunication, Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi; and Satok assemblyman Datuk Ibrahim Baki, among others.
