Kuching Community College graduates mostly secure jobs

KUCHING: Graduates from Kuching Community College have been chosen by industry players in this country in scouting for semi-skilled workforce.

Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Office (Law, MA63 and State-Federal Relation) Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali said that this year, the marketability of the graduates increase to 90.3 per cent compare to 89.3 per cent in 2021.

“Based on the overall amount, 58.4 per cent of them have secured a career in the respective field while the rest have pursued their studies in the higher level.

“The research also shows that most of the graduates secure a job right after they underwent their own practical training in their institution,” she said.

She also added that the statistic shows that graduates of Technical Vocational Education Training (TVET) Kuching Community College will always have a place in the job market regardless of what type of field they enrolled in the first place.

“I also found that most of the graduates have become entrepreneurs in their own rights, and I commend on that part,” she said.

She said this in her delivery speech ahead of the officiating ceremony of TVET Community College Day 2022 at Mydin Vista in Petrajaya yesterday.

Hasidah also hoped that SPM students would not hesitate to pursue their studies in TVET at the community college.

“The community members also have the chance to improve their skills through short courses that are conducted in a short amount of time under the Lifetime Learning Unit or Unit Pembelajaran Sepanjang Hayat,” she added.

She also stated that the government through various departments and agencies such as community college would provide spaces and platforms for all of the people to improve their skills through the short courses with low and reasonable fees.

“Some of the fields that can be studied would be information technology, sewing, craft, electricity and others,” she added.

As many as eight home models that are created from six traditional Malay houses were showcased throughout the programme and they are created by students from Certificate of Architecture Technology alongside other works from other students based on their subject.

In the meantime, there are nine garments that were designed by students from Certificate of Fashion and Clothing also being showcased alongside illustrations and technical drawings, embroidery, fabric research alongside basic drawings.

Also present throughout the ceremony was deputy director (academic) of Kuching community college Mervin Gumba Sigai, alongside other important guests.
