KUCHING: Traffic police issued a total of 147 compounds for offences involving vehicle licence plates in a seven-day operation recently.

The operation by the Kuching traffic police division codenamed ‘Op Khas Nombor Pendaftaran’ was conducted from Feb 6 to 12.

Kuching police chief ACP Ahsmon Bajah said the compounds were for the use of fancy licence plates, licence plates not following the specified size, and not displaying any licence plates.

“Each compound was between RM100 and RM300 under Rule 6(1) of LN173/59 and Section 14(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

“All motorists are advised to obey the stipulated road and traffic rules. Similar operations will be conducted from time to time,” he said.

Last Thursday (Feb 9), Ahsmon said failure to display sanctioned licence plates was against the law and it would confuse the Road Transport Department (JPJ) and other agencies.
