KUCHING: Kuching was beautifully depicted on South Korea’s Discovery Channel cinematic road programme “Off the Grid,” on Dec 29 and Jan 5 at 10.30pm KST (Korea Standard Time), when the nation’s famous actor Yoo Seung Ho travelled here late last year.
“Off the Grid” is a travel variety show that has different South Korean celebrities on each episode.
It shows how the cast members spend their time alone in several different places in a therapeutic mood with a touch of relaxation as they discover interesting and natural encounters during the travel.
Yoo, the star of the drama “I’m not a Robot,” has been busy filming dramas and movies all the way back since he was a child actor 24 years ago in 1999, but he managed to take “a short break” with a different method.
The programme featured Yoo as a foreign visitor to Kuching, which according to him is exciting to discover and for the first time where he could disappear in a city.
In the interview revealed by Discovery Channel Korea, Yoo explained that he felt like he had only shown himself inside a situation that was scripted, like in dramas and movies, so there were times he found himself unable to speak properly when he did not have a script.
“Thus, I felt like I needed a change, and I was curious what and how I would look when I was not acting.
“During the shoot, it was a moment when I completely did what I wanted to do, where I could take a lot of photos of landscapes, different clouds, and weather,” he added.
In the show, he was shown walking on the Darul Hana Bridge to have a stop right in front of the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) complex, cruising through Sungai Sarawak on a “sampan,” having dinner at the Topspot food court, visiting Damai Beach, and many more, while wearing a white T-shirt, blue jeans, and a cap.
