Kuching Fest has global appeal: Dr Sim

KUCHING: Kuching Food Festival or simply known as Kuching Fest is one the heart and soul of events in Sarawak.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian said the event has attracted not only tourists within Sarawak, but also Malaya and even international tourists from Europe and others, and the festival is one of the biggest events in the state’s tourism calendar.

“Sarawakians who are working in Kuala Lumpur or Singapore all find time to come home to visit Kuching Festival.

“Whether you are young or old we all come together to participate in the events during this festival.

“Every single night there are various performances and activities such as exhibitions, garden shows and others,” he said in his speech during the opening ceremony of Kuching Festival 2024 at Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Theatre here on Tuesday (July 30).

He also applaud fellow entrepreneurs and stall owners for being able to showcase the unique creativity through their cuisines and dishes.

“When the visitors come to Kuching Festival, they want to see the creative talents of the entrepreneurs who sell their dishes once a year and this is the time for them to showcase it as well.

“Not only that, we share our joys, we enjoy together, we eat together and we generate income together,” he stated.

In the meantime, he wants to see Kuching becoming a prosperous and inclusive city by 2030.

“Whether you (Sarawakian) are young old, far or near, working in Kuala Lumpur or Singapore, everybody is socially included,” he added.

Also present during the opening ceremony were Deputy Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Datuk Sebastian Ting, Deputy Utility and Telecommunication Minister Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, MBKS Mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng, Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) Mayor Hilmy Othman, Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) chairman Tan Kai and Batu Kitang assemblyman Datuk Lo Khere Chiang.
