KUCHING: The Kuching Food Festival 2023 attracted 1,113,744 visitors over the course of 24 days, said Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng.
Wee said the number of daily visitors this year also broke the previous year’s record.
“We have managed to break the record for the highest daily visitors of 81,058 persons this year compared to last year which only reached 80,000.
“After that, we broke the record again when we reached 93,986 visitors on the penultimate day of the festival.
“Therefore, MBKS needs to continue to think of ways to break the record next year with a target of 100,000 daily visitors,” he told a press conference on the post Kuching Food Festival 2023 here, yesterday (Aug 22).
Wee said he was very pleased with the organisation of the event, including the presence of several honorable guests such as the Ambassador of the Republic of China to Malaysia Ouyang Yujing, along with the Deputy Premier Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian.
Meanwhile, he said MBKS was offering a 50 per cent discount on compound fines for drivers in conjunction with the 60th anniversary of Sarawak independence celebration and Kuching City Day from August 23 to October 31 this year.
“This initiative aims to encourage compliance with parking regulations and motivate drivers to settle their fines promptly,” he said.
However, he said that court action would be taken if payments were not made during the timeframe.
Motorists can make payments at the payment counter at MBKS Lobby, Jalan Padungan, Kuching City Parking System Sdn. Bhd. (KCPS) office at Jalan Datuk Abang Abdul Rahim, or any coupon payment booth.
Meanwhile, commenting on the case of stray dogs that have bitten a nurse at a clinic near the Stutong Commercial Centre, Wee explained that MBKS had dispatched a team to capture two identified strays.
He said one dog has been captured, while the other is still being tracked after it was found hiding in a nearby area.
