KUCHING: The Salvation Army Kuching Corps are requesting donations of essential items from the public to help the fire victims of Rh Naga Rasau in Engkilili, Sri Aman.
On Sept 16, part of the 24-door longhouse was razed, affecting 18 families.
The Salvation Army Kuching Corps recently visited the families to gauge their current situation and to contribute food as well as other necessities.
According to Corps officer, Capt Raymond Rubi Aloba, the affected families were still living in inadequate temporary quarters.
“We discovered that these families do not have adequate shelter from the weather and its elements. “They are currently living in a kitchen shelter where all of them would congregate when it rains.
“The families consist of 85 people, including children, and they have yet to receive any updates on when or how to move forward from the loss of their homes.”
The Corps will be making two more trips this month and in November in which they intend to give pastoral care, counselling and assist in building a solid shelter for the families.
Among the essential items needed are stationery, toiletries, groceries, clothing, kitchen utensils, mosquito netting, vinyl carpet, mineral and drinking water, portable toilet, portable water supply as well as first aid kits.
Those who wish to contribute cash or any of the essential items can do so by delivering the items to The Salvation Army Kuching Corps and Community Services, Jalan Sekama, Kuching by Oct 22.
