Kuching Teochew Association to host national conference from 15-17 Aug

KUCHING: Kuching Teochew Association will be hosting the National Teochew Conference, called the 78th National Delegates Conference, from 15 -17 August at Pullman Hotel here.

It will be the fifth time that the association is hosting the conference.

The conference and the 83rd Anniversary of the Federated Teochew Associations of Malaysia will be organised jointly with seven other Teochew Associations from Sri Aman, Engkilili, Sibu, Mukah, Tatau, Bintulu and Miri.   

The grand event is expected to attract over 1000 delegates from 58 affiliated member-associations from all over Malaysia .

Special guests from Singapore and China will also be joining the 83rd Anniversary Celebration Dinner.

This will be the fifth time that the National Teochew Conference is being held here.

Minister of Local Government, Datuk Dr. Sim Kui Hian  will be the guest of honour for the grand celebration dinner on 16 August, 2017.

The Organising Committee led by the association’s President, Penghulu Tan Tuan Woo and first Vice President cum Conference Organising Chairperson, Tan Cho Yian recently called on Sim to invite him to the dinner.

Pre and post conference tours will be arranged in conjunction with the conference.

Booths will be set up to promote local produce and handicrafts to introduce the local industries and showcase the many ethnicities in Sarawak.

There will also be an exhibition corner to promote property investment and business investment opportunities in the state.

The Kuching Teochew Association, which has a history of 153 years, has contributed greatly to the local community, especially in education through SMJK Kuching High which was set up on the association’s land located at Jalan Mathies here.
