KUCHING: 800 delegates worldwide will be here from 6 to 8 September this year to attend an international summit on peace
According to Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, the conference organised by Junior Chamber International and the state government will feature 3 Noble Peace Prize recipients namely the President of Rwanda, President of Columbia and Queen of Belgium to give their keynote address.
“This will be the highlight for the event and to our state too. Kuching is chosen to be the venue as Kuching had been recognised as The City of Unity and its is suitable with the event theme,” he said in a press conference after the meeting on the International Summit on Peace at Hilton Hotel here, on Wednesday night.
Karim said the event will be officiated by Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg on 6 September 2017.
“During this event, the delegates worldwide will not be left by us to promote the unity and uniqueness of our state especially on our tourism.
“We will work hard to promote our state uniqueness so that they will feel and have good memories on Sarawak after they went back to their own country and might be will come back to Sarawak as a tourist,” Karim pointed out.
Karim said the main purpose of the event is to promote peace.
“Now we have to many wars happening, and it is indeed a good effort for our state and our country to held as such programme in highlighting peace, prosperity and the unity of our people.
“Kuching city is a very ideal location for this event as it offers a colourful and diverse landscape rich in history and culture with more than 28 different ethnic groups and we can live in peace compare to other country,” he said.
He added that the event is the first time in Sarawak and also Malaysia.
