KUCHING: Kuching City has been invited to send representatives from five restaurants and their chefs to partake in the gastronomy promenade at the Macao Fisherman’s Wharf.
Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng said the event was part of the 25th anniversary of the establishment of Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR).
“We visited Macao last year for a similar event. This year, the celebration is even bigger. And Kuching’s role is also bigger,” he told a press conference at Annie’s Kolo Mee at Jalan Padungan here yesterday.
Wee added that Annie would also be bringing Kuching’s famous kolo mee to Macao.
“Our chefs from Lamin will be presenting a range of Sarawak dishes from our famous jungle pantry.
“Children of Emilies will be showcasing a new modern twist on Sarawak street food. Ruai Bistro will be combining Iban, Melanau and Chinese food.
“Meanwhile, Little Hainan will be showcasing our iconic Sarawak laksa for this event,” he said.
Wee added that last year, two chefs from the Culinary Heritage and Arts Society Sarawak (CHASS), namely, Laura Bara Sim and Penny Ling, showcased the region’s indigenous cuisine by making ‘pansuh’ (meat cooked in bamboo) for the Macao crowd.
“This year, they will be showcasing ‘Kacang Ma’ and ‘Tumpik’, two of the heritage dishes so beloved by Sarawak,” he said.
The mayor also took the opportunity to thank the Macao Tourism office for inviting Sarawak to share its food with the community there.
“We also want to thank Sarawak Tourism Federation and Sarawak Tourism Board for supporting our trip and this will be an opportunity to put Kuching on the international stage,” he said.
