Kuching tops new cases in state

KUCHING: Sarawak on Sunday (Oct 10) recorded 1,132 new Covid-19 cases, six more cases compared to Saturday’s 1,126 cases.

The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in its daily Covid-19 update today, said 1,118 or 98.76 percent of the new cases were of categories 1 and 2, while 14 cases were of categories 3, 4 and 5.

It said the cumulative cases in the state now stood at 224,639 since the first case was detected in March last year.

“Kuching topped the list of new cases with 325, followed by Sibu with 154, Miri (137), Lawas (68), Bintulu (66), Bau (52), Betong (50), Limbang (39), Mukah (24), Samarahan (24), Simunjan (24), Sarikei (23), Sri Aman (16), Meradong (13), Matu (13), Saratok (12), Daro (11) and Pusa (11).

“Additionally, only single-digit number of cases were reported in Lubok Antu, Subis, Serian, Telang Usan, Dalat, Kanowit, Asajaya, Selangau, Sebauh, Kapit, Song, Kabong, Marudi, Belaga, Julau, Pakan and Beluru,” it said.

The committee said three backlog death cases from October 2, 5 and 8 were also confirmed to be tied to Covid-19 infections.

“The first death was that of a 62-year-old woman from Samarahan; the second, a brought-in-dead (BID) case involving a 52-year-old man from Kuching while the third case was that of an 87-year-old man, also from Kuching.

“All the victims had comorbidities including high blood pressure and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD),” it added.

The SDMC also announced the end of five Covid-19 clusters in the state, namely, the Sungai Penyarai 2 cluster in Tatau, the Kaman cluster in Bau,t the Sawit Gelasah cluster in Subis, the Beruru cluster in Pakan and the Nanga Lasi Mit cluster in Julau.

“No new cases were reported in these clusters for the past 28 days, while the number of active clusters in the state is now 72,” it explained.
