THE overall progress of the Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS) project for Phase 1 as of October 2024 now stands at 25.8 per cent.
Deputy Minister for Transport Datuk Dr Jerip Susil said the percentage was ahead of the planned schedule of 24.73 per cent.
“This is a positive variance of 1.07 per cent,” he said in reply to a supplementary question from Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh (GPS-Bawang Assan) during question-and-answer time today.
Earlier, Wong had asked about the current overall percentage of completion of the KUTS project.
The breakdown of the project’s progress are as follows:
- Procurement activities which is at 79.01 per cent
- Consultancy services (98.34 per cent)
- Infrastructure works are progressing (5.82) per cent, mainly at Blue Line and Red Line.
- System development stands (32.09 per cent)
- Feeder buses (1.98 per cent).
On the delivery of the total 38 Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) vehicles to Sarawak, Dr Jerip said the first two units are expected to arrive by the first quarter of next year, and will be used for test runs.
“The remaining units scheduled for shipment from China will be in batches from 2025 to 2027,” he said.
He added the 38 units of ART vehicles will be manufactured and shipped from China in stages to align with the construction of the ART infrastructure and the overall system’s completion timeline.
