KUCHING: All lights were turned off for an hour at the Kuching Waterfront after the Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) launched the Earth Hour 2023 programme last night (March 25).

The event, held from 8.30pm until 9.30pm at the Godown Amphitheatre, was part of DBKU’s participation in the environmental initiative.

Present to launch the event was DBKU mayor Datuk Junaidi Reduan.

In a press statement issued by the commission, it said that the one-hour Earth Hour programme is an example of DBKU’s effort to create awareness of the importance of energy conservation and take positive steps to curb the climate problem in Kuching.

“DBKU will continue to provide support to the environmental initiative by encouraging the public to turn the lights off at business premises, residential areas, and office areas.

“The symbolic gesture is a show of support for concerns about global warming, climate change issues, and energy conservation,” added the statement.

About 100 members of the public crowded the Kuching Waterfront to support the environmental initiative organised by DBKU.

Also present was DBKU director Mohamed Khaidir Abang.
