KUCHING: Kuching’s first STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) enrichment centre has been established. Known as The Learning Curve (TLC), its founders are Kenneth Chai, Kelly Kho, Benjamin Kon and Jasmine Sia. STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) is one of the priorities in the Malaysian Education Blueprint initiated in 2011.
However, there is no institution in Kuching offering STEM-related courses for school-going children despite the overwhelming demand for it. Therefore, TLC has been set up to address this need. “TLC was founded on the vision that the passion for learning has to be cultivated and incubated.
“Discovering the curiosity of his 3-year-old son, Kenneth believes that the rote-learning model widely practiced in schools today kills the passion for learning, and therefore TLC aims to be different. “The passion for discovering and learning must be inculcated when they are young and curious, and the rest will fall into place naturally.
“To achieve this, the rote-learning model must be compensated with a learning community, where learners develop their interests and passion in seeking knowledge within a conducive environment. Hence, The Learning Curve,” according to a TLC press statement.
Located at Tabuan Tranquility, TLC offers a wide range of enrichment workshops, seminars and courses that makes Science and Mathematics exciting for students preparing for PT3 or SPM. Its twice a week STEM seminars exposes the fun and practical part of Physics, Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics days before they hear about them in schools. Equipped with fabricators, 3D printers and modular computers, the center is the perfect place for our young inventors and scientists to unleash their creativity. TLC will hold an Open Day on 5 November 2017 from 2.30pm- 5.30pm.
