KUCHING: The petanque team continues to deliver outstanding performances, surpassing expectations by contributing five gold medals and three silver medals to Sarawak’s contingent so far.
Daro assemblyman, Safiee Ahmad, expressed pride in the achievement, noting that the petanque team had successfully contributed a significant number of medals.
“We are grateful because, initially, we only aimed for three golds, but our team has managed to secure five golds and three silvers so far.
“This surpasses our target and proves that petanque is now one of the sports contributing many medals to Sarawak,” he said.
The ACDM Petanque Malaysia Games (SUKMA) Sarawak 2024 also made this statement when met after the prize-giving ceremony for the men’s triple event and the mixed triple event (one man and two women) at the Santubong Petanque Arena here today (Aug 22).
He hopes the Sarawak team will continue to win medals in the two events that will be contested until August 24.
“Looking at the performance from the first day until today, I see that our chances of winning more gold are bright.
“This is also due to the commitment and high fighting spirit among our athletes.
“They have proven it by making history with the highest achievement of winning five gold medals,” he said.
Earlier, Safiee also personally awarded the medals to the Sarawak team during the prize-giving ceremony.
