SIBU: Sarawak Dayak National Union (SDNU) Sibu will bring back its highlight event, the Kumang competition, in the upcoming Pre-Gawai Dayak Night this year.

“We will organise the Kumang Gawai SDNU competition this year after not organising it for three years due to several reasons,” said SDNU Sibu Chairman Chambai Lindong.

He told reporters this when met after officiating at the SDNU Sibu Cup 2024 Badminton Tournament at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Bukit Assek here Sunday (April 21).

He said that the Pre-Gawai celebration will be held on May 25 at Hotel Kingwood at 6.30 pm.

“So far, 144 table tickets have been sold in less than two weeks. The guest of honour at the event will be the Minister of Works, Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi,” he added.

He said that other dignitaries from the Rejang area are also invited to the event.

Chambai also stated that SDNU Sibu will be celebrating its Golden Jubilee in conjunction with its 50th anniversary in Sibu on Dec 7.

“We have planned to celebrate it on that date because SDNU Sibu was registered on Dec 7, 1974.

“When the time comes, we will announce it to seek the support of the public to make the celebration a success,” he added.
