KUCHING: The Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) of Taman Builder Built, here is organising a Gawai dinner on this coming 13 May at the Christian Ecumenical Centre (CEC) here, said a press release yesterday.
Minister of Local Government Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian has consented to be the Guest-of-Honour for the event.
Themed ‘Seati, Segulai, Sejalai’ (Unity, Togetherness and Solidarity), this Gawai dinner is expected to be a grand one in view that the event’s highlight is the Kumang Gawai contest that the organiser, the JKKK of the Gawai Dinner, expects a pageantry of beautiful Dayak maidens in traditional Iban costumes.

The following prizes await winners of the beauty contest. Winner will take home a cash prize of RM1, 500 plus trophy, sash and bouquet. First runner-up and second runner-up winners will respectively take home cash of RM1,000 and RM700 accompanied by a trophy, sash and bouquet each whereas each consolation winner takes home a cash prize of RM100 plus a bud of rose.
Apart from the pageantry of beauties there will be a special and rare event ‘Pekit Penyamai Ai Tuak’ or Best Tuak Contest that offers attractive prizes.
