KUCHING: The Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS) project is progressing well and remains on track despite minor challenges, according to Sarawak Metro chief executive officer Mazli Mustaffa.

He said the road construction for the Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) is proceeding as scheduled, with the primary challenge being the weather.

“The main challenge now is indeed the weather, as the KUTS project heavily involves construction work that affects the land, and the constant rain is a hindrance.”

Mazli made these remarks during a press conference following a briefing on the Road Safety Awareness Campaign at the Integrated Project Management Complex for the KUTS Project at Jalan Lapangan Terbang on Wednesday (Aug 28).

He reassured that despite the unusual weather patterns, including daily rain, the project is still on track.

Regarding the campaign, Mazli said its purpose is to educate road users on the necessary safety precautions when navigating roads affected by KUTS projects.

“One of the objectives of this campaign is to inform the public and contractors about the implementation of projects according to the standards set, to avoid accidents or any unwanted incidents.”

During the campaign, KUTS, in collaboration with relevant government agencies, distributed gift bags to road users containing pamphlets about the KUTS projects and essential safety guidelines.

Earlier, KUTS and the government agencies conducted a briefing session to provide details about the campaign and ensure its smooth execution.

Also present were Sarawak Metro Sdn Bhd officer in charge Awang Nasfuddin Awang Hassan and KUTS project director Zafrin Zakariah.
