MIRI: A young and talented Jenewin Esau made Kolej Vokasional Miri (KVM) proud when he emerged as the champion in one of the categories at the World Skills Malaysia Sarawak Competition in Kuching last month.
Esau, an automotive student, is currently in his second year of Diploma.
Under the guidance of a vocational lecturer, Ahmad Nizam Yahaya, the team has won the Automotive Technology category, bringing home a trophy, certificates as well as RM3,000 cash prize.
The competition is undoubtedly one of the best platforms to discover and harness students’ talents or skills, in unison with the vision of Technical & Vocational Educational & Training (TVET) which is to produce more competent workforce for sustainable development in the future.
In line with the victory, KVM will be hosting TVET Roadshow Programme 2019 for the first time on Oct 12 at its premises here. The programme targets PT3 graduates and local communities with the ultimate goal of providing public exposure to technical and vocational areas that are slowly gaining more attention in the current education stream.
In addition to the Automotive Technology Programme, KVM also offers Welding Technology, Electrical Technology, Electronic Technology, Industrial Machining Technology, Accounting, Computer System & Networking as well as Tourism.
The TVET Roadshow Programme is a collaboration programme between Kolej Vokasional and Sekolah Menengah Teknik in the Sarawak zone.
This programme was encouraged and brought up by the Education, Science and Technological Research minister Datuk Seri Michael Manyin Jawong, during his speech when officiating at the Sarawak-zone KV Skills and Students Innovation Competition at Kolej Vokasional Kuching.
A total of 25 exhibition booths will be set up by IPTA and IPTS as well as other training and skills Institutions. Companies and industry members are invited to hold open interviews with the alumni from Kolej Vokasional of the Sarawak zone.
Besides exhibition, there will also be other exciting activities such as e-sports competitions, game booths, talks as well as quizzes and visitors will have the opportunity to bring home exciting prizes.
Kolej Vokasional Miri director Choo Siak Lan expressed the hope that through this programme, the public would have a deeper understanding on the technical and vocational education system.
Kolej Vokasional offers students the opportunity to be competent workers in a specific field by providing relevant training and education.
As part of the community, she strongly believes that it is time for all to acknowledge the importance and needs of having skilled workers in various industries in Malaysia.
