LABUAN: The first-ever multi-measurement kit (MMK) innovation for civil construction works by a team of engineers in this duty-free-island has won a grant of RM100,000 in the Grassroots Open Challenge (GOC) 2022.

Team leader Ir. Leong Geok Teng said the team comprises staff of Labuan Public Works Department (PWD) who had taken part in GOC 2022 from March 1 – April 30.

“We never expected our first-innovation multi measurement kit to win in the GOC 2022, as it was a tough competition between 270 innovation teams.

“We were among the top 25 finalists after presenting our innovation in September last year and were declared as one of the nine winners (for grant scope of product/prototype development) in Dec 30.

“The grant will be presented this month” she told Bernama today.

Leong said the GOC 2022 implemented by Yayasan Inovasi Malaysia (YIM) is aimed to enhance development and commercialisation efforts of grassroots’ innovation and to provide capacity building opportunities to local grassroots innovators.
