KUCHING: Lambir incumbent Ripin Lamat said he will likely face a four to five-cornered fight for the coming 12th state election.
He said that his assumption was based from several political parties that have expressed their interest to contest in the constituency.
“Sarawak is a democratic state and, therefore, I welcome anyone who is interested to contest in Lambir state constituency,” he said.
Ripin, who is also the Commercial Licensing Board (LPKP) chairman, said he together with his election machinery are already prepared for the election.
“It does not matter if you are a Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidate or from the opposition party; all parties will definitely be confident that they can win the coming election.
“I am confident that we (GPS) will win in the 12th state election,” he said to reporters after chairing a dialogue with 11 licensed commercial vehicle owners here on Friday (Nov 26).
Meanwhile, GPS chairman Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has forseen the five incumbents in Miri will stay as the party’s candidates including Ripin, who is also a Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) member.
For the record, Ripin fought under the PBB’s ticket during the 11th State Elections in Lambir and won with a 4,907- majority vote defeating Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR)’s candidate, Mohdak Ismail.
