KUCHING: The process of land acquisition for expanding the school block of SJK (C) Chung Hua Stampin at Jalan Sg Tapang here is now under way. Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs, Chong Chieng Jen said he hoped that the state government would speed up the entire process.

“The land acquisition is by the state government for public purposes and has been submitted through the Land and Survey Department. It is still in the process.

“The school is asking for another one or two acres of neighbouring land which are sufficient for the new block of the school,” he added. According to Chong, once the land acquisition process is completed, the school will start applying for the building allocation to carry out the expansion of the school.

“Plans for expansion have been brought up due to the increase in students, resulting from the rapid development of housing projects in the area. However, the school only has half an acre of land for expansion. Thus, applications of acquisition of nearby lands are necessary since they are privately owned,” he explained.

Chong who is also Stampin Member of Parliament added the school was founded in 1936 and that its buildings were built with donations from the community. “In the past, due to the government’s policy on Chinese school building, there were not much funds allocated,” he said. He added that since the change of government, the policy had changed.

“Funds will be given out when necessary. There will be an increase in development expenditure allocations for Chinese schools and even Chinese middle schools, as stated by the Minister of Education,” he stressed.
