KUCHING: Sarawak has achieved international recognition once more when the state Land and Survey Department (JTS) received the Special Achievement in Geographic Information System (GIS) (SAG) Award at the 2022 Esri Consumer Conference in San Diego, California, United States.

JTS with their project, Electronic Land and Survey Information System (eLasis) and Mobile Lasis have been selected to receive the prestigious award from over 100,000 other projects.

The award was given to user sites around the world to recognise excellent work with GIS technology, and the award has recognised eLASIS and Mobile LASIS that have created a One-Stop Virtual Office.

According to Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS), the initiatives of eLasis and Mobile Lasis were to digitally transform the department’s service delivery system with the mission of ‘bringing the office to every doorstep’.

The department said that eLASIS and Mobile LASIS are a continuous transformation to its service delivery system to cater for the both the stakeholders and customers’ needs and had proven to be efficient and effective during the Movement Control Order (MCO) enforced in the country where the public was affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Receiving the prestigious SAG award from the President of Esri Jack Dangermond on behalf of the JTS was Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.

He was accompanied by Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Urban Planning (MUDeNR) Datuk Len Talif Salleh and Advisor to Ministry of International Trade, Industry and Investment Datuk Mohd Naroden Majais.

Also present were Sarawak Multimedia Board (SMA) General Manager Dr Zaidi Razak, Sarawak Service Modernisation Unit (SSMU) Director Michael Ronnie Langgong and JTS Acting Director Awang Zamhari Awang Mahmood.
