KUCHING: Efforts are underway to resolve land acquisition disputes for the Batang Samarahan-Batang Sadong dual carriageway project, said Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development Datuk Rubiah Wang.

“While the tender process and land acquisition have been completed, some issues have arisen with certain landowners,” Rubiah told reporters after officiating at the Sarawak State-Level IFEST 2024 at the Institute for Rural Advancement (INFRA) campus today (Sept 29).

The Land and Survey Department (JTS) is addressing these disputes, according to her.

“The land identification process has been completed, but there are a few plots where disputes have emerged from the owners, and action is being taken,” she said.

Rubiah, who is also Kota Samarahan MP, assured that these issues are not hindering the project’s progress.

“JTS is working to resolve the land matters promptly to ensure smooth project implementation,” she added.

Most of the land involved is Native Customary Rights (NCR) land, while some state land has been cultivated by certain parties.
