KUCHING: People looking to have their lands surveyed under Section 6 and Section 18 of the Sarawak Land Code must submit their applications to the Land and Survey Department.
Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said land surveying will only be carried out based on applications.
“After the applications are received, they will be scrutinised and justified before being approved, after which the department will interview the applicants to ensure that their applications are accurate,” he said.
He said this when met by reporters after the handover of Section 6 Sarawak Land Code Gazette and land titles under Section 18 for Serian Division at Balai Raya Kampung Sinjok, Siburan today.
Awang Tengah asserted that the interviews play an important role in ensuring that accurate information is received by the department.
“For traditional villages, it is not a problem for us to survey the land as we know the areas concerned and the villagers are also very cooperative,” he said.
He added that cooperation given by landowners is also important to expedite the surveying process.
On the surveying of traditional villages, he said the initiative is currently carried out throughout the state.
“Even though these traditional villages have been around for a long time, the status is still ‘shared use’ for bumiputeras.
“With this initiative, we will carry out individual land surveys which also require cooperation from villagers. Once they are done, their respective land titles will be issued under Section 18,” he clarified.
