LUNDU: A landfill costing RM40 million that will be built soon here is expected to benefit both the residents of Lundu and Bau districts.
According to Opar assemblyman Billy Sujang, the project will be implemented in two phases where phase one involves the construction of an access road approximately 1 kilometre from the main road, while phase two involves the construction of the remaining access roads (about 6.7 km) and the construction of a waste disposal system.
“We were told that this landfill has a 10-year lifespan usage.
“Hence, before 10 years, we will think about other alternatives (for the disposal system) because the garbage generated will increase following the increased population,” he said.
In the meantime, Billy also added that as a result of the briefing done, the implementation of phase two can be carried out simultaneously to reduce the time taken for the project to be completed.
