KAPIT: The landslide that occurred early Monday (Aug 26) has closed the main road to Baleh Dam, believed to be due to continuous rain throughout the night.
Kapit Division Public Works Department (JKR) engineer Jawa Gara confirmed that the first report about the incident was received at 5.30am.
He said a technical team had been sent to the location to assess and gather more information.
However, communication coverage problems made it difficult to gather detailed information.
The incident affected several longhouses in the area, including Rh Jantai in Nanga Entalanggau, Rh Soselly Sintau in Nanga Serengat, Rh Jack and Rh Samun in Nanga Entalawan, Rh Jamit in Sungai Sepanggil, Rh Gima in Nanga Sebiro,Rh Lasoe, Rh Unggam and Rh Langga in Nanga Antawau.
In addition, the Nanga Merirai health clinic and SK Nanga Entawau were also affected.
The authorities are now working to open the road and restore the situation as soon as possible. Residents are advised to be vigilant and avoid travelling in affected areas.
In the meantime, JKR and related agencies are urged to improve road quality inspections, especially in areas that have the potential to experience landslides.
This proactive measure is expected to prevent similar incidents and minimise the risk to public safety.
