KAPIT: Firemen here closed off Jalan Melekun-Mujong after a massive landslide occurred early this morning.
The incident was reported to Kapit fire station around 5.20am and a team was despatched to the scene.
Kapit fire chief Erwandy Tugor said the incident happened about 16km from the town with a depth of about 50 meters deep.
“The cause of the landslide was due to soft soil and heavy rain.
“No casualties were reported and no one was on the road due to the enforced movement control order (MCO) in this district.
“The situation was deemed dangerous for road users and measures to close off the road are done for the safety of users,” he told.
He added that machineries are now helping to create alternative routes to Mujong and Kapit.
It is estimated that more than 10 longhouses along the area were affected by the landslide.
