MIRI: A landslide triggered by heavy rainfall on Sunday has put 200 villagers in Niah at risk, occurring just three metres from the backyard of a longhouse.
The Miri Civil Defence Force (APM) said that of the longhouse’s 41 doors, eight faced direct impact from the landslide.
APM personnel were dispatched to the site at Tuai Rumah Mandau Empenit, Suai Niah, at approximately 10.15 am to assess and monitor the situation closely.
Fortunately, there were no injuries reported among the villagers.
Residents have been warned to stay alert to the risk of further landslides and to consider relocating to safer locations if their current homes are deemed to be unsafe.
