KUALA LUMPUR: The late Senator Datuk Mutang Tagal’s final journey home commenced today (May 12) as his casket was flown from Subang Airport in Kuala Lumpur to Miri.
Accompanied by solemn ceremonies, a Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) aircraft departed at 8am, carrying the revered figure’s remains.
The procession is expected to continue after arriving at Miri Airport.
The Lun Bawang community, to which the late Mutang belonged, will pay their last tributes at the BEM Airport Road Church here, beginning today.
Among those expected to honour him is Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg, scheduled to pay his respects at 1pm today.
Further commemorations are planned, with a service at BEM Canada Hill Church in Miri tomorrow, starting at 9am.
The funeral proceedings will then take place at the Golden Memorial Park, here.
Mutang died at the National Heart Institute (IJN) in Kuala Lumpur at 11.46am on Friday at the age of 69.
He was admitted to IJN shortly after arriving from Azerbaijan on May 6, following a working visit that started on April 29 and returning earlier than scheduled.
