KUCHING: Two men were injured in a two-vehicle collision along Mile 11, Jalan Kuching-Serian last night.

The accident involving a pickup truck and a car happened around 11.30 pm near the Royal Malaysia Armed Forces (RMAF) Housing Complex.

The vehicles in a bad condition following the collision along Jalan Kuching-Serian.

A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firemen from Siburan station were despatched to the scene after they received a distress call.

The firefighters helped to carry the injured victims (driver and passenger) to the ambulances which transported them to the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for treatment. The extent of their injuries was not made known.

The pickup truck driver was reportedly unharmed in the accident.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, a local man managed to escape to safety after his car engine suddenly caught fire at Taman Sri Wangi, Petra Jaya last night.

Firemen from Petra Jaya were deployed to the scene after receiving a distress call around 7.05 pm.

The team helped to extinguish the fire, which caused 30 per cent damages to the engine.

The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
