SIBU: Ten pupils managed to escape a fire that razed their hostel at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Ulu Yong, Kapit last Wednesday.
According to State Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), a distress call on the incident was received at 11.39pm.
Following the call, Kapit Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) despatched a team of 12 firefighters and Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) personnel to the scene.
“The location of the school was 22 kilometres away from the fire station, and it took around 30 minutes to reach the scene.
“Upon arrival, the fire has destroyed the 750-square-metre wooden hostel as well as the 160-square-metre wooden teacher’s quarters,” the statement said.
The team managed to control the fire and saved two teacher’s quarters, located three metres away from the burning hostel, from going up in flames.
The operation ended at 2.40am.
