KUCHING: The Group of Latin American and Caribbean Embassies in Malaysia (GRULAC) proposed to organise a Latin America Festival in Kuching towards the end of this year.

According to Ambassador of Uruguay HE Valeria Csukasi, the organisation of the festival was discussed with Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg during a courtesy visit to his office at Wisma Bapa Malaysia here today.

She said that Premier supported the event, which would also add value to the economy of Sarawak and attract foreign investments.

“The Premier is very generous to allow us to organise this festival.

“The objective of organising this festival is to introduce our culture and also to bring in investments to economic development, business opportunities, and ensure that Latin American culture is truly recognised in Sarawak,” she told reporters after the courtesy visit.

On a related note, Valeria also said that the selection of Kuching was appropriate considering that the city was synonymous with arts and cultural activities.
