SIBU: Members of the Lau clan here have earned some well-deserved praise for sitting out tough times together.
At the Sarawak Pan-Chen Lau Clan Association (SPCLCA) 45th anniversary dinner on Sunday its president Albert Lau recalled how his fellow clansmen had responded to the call of service.
He said during the most difficult period of the Covid-19 pandemic, the association had worked hard to overcome difficulties, and even established a welfare fund to assist needy clansmen, which is worthy of praise.
“I would like to thank all the members for their full cooperation,” he said, adding, “our Lau clan guild is like a big family.”
All members hope the family will become bigger and more prosperous he said.
“Therefore, everyone of us has the responsibility and obligation to do a good job in the affairs of the association in order to promote the Lau clan family.”
Lau said since joining the association about three decades ago, he has been touched by the wholehearted devotion and dedication of the clan members.
Having said he reminded them of the need to keep the momentum going.
“Only by constantly moving forward can we lead the guild to a better future,” he said.
Dewan Rakyat Deputy Speaker Alice Lau, Consul General Xing Weiping of the People’s Republic of China in Kuching, Temenggong Datuk Vincent Lau , the Chinese paramount leader in Sibu, Chairman of Sibu General Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry Datuk Lau Cheng Kiong, Farley Group Chairman Lau Siew Whye and SPCLCA Chairman Penghulu Lau Hieng Wuong were among those present at the event.
