KUCHING: Lawas will host the upcoming Sarawak Nuzul Al-Quran, themed ‘Sarawak Maju Makmur’.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hassan said the ceremony will be held at Darul Ma’amur Mosque, Lawas on April 7.
“The ceremony is expected to begin at 5.30 pm on Friday and we will also invite delegations from Brunei Darussalam and Sabah,” he said.
He said although Lawas had hosted other events such as Maulidur and the Tilawah Al-Quran, this is the first time in which Lawas will be hosting the Nuzul Al-Quran, he said during a press conference on the upcoming programme at Wisma Sumber Alam today.
Among VIP guests who will be attending are Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud and his wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Raghad Kurdi Taib, and Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and his wife Puan Sri Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang.
On another note, there will be four side events in conjunction with the celebration, including a Ramadan lecture, Ramadan talk, Al-Quran exhibition, and Ihya Ramadan Perdana Borneo.
“The Ramadan Perdana Borneo will be held on April 8 in Merapok, which is the border between Lawas and Sabah.
“We will organise this event which will include a talk themed ‘Masyarakat Madani’,” he added.
Around 1,100 people are expected to attend the event.
