KUCHING: The Sarawak men’s triple lawn bowls team beat Johor 14-10, but not before a hard-fought match.
The team of Awang Mohamad Sharszan Fyirman Awang Nasaruddin, Iskandar Hasbi, and Mohamad Amsyar Mohamad Amelin faced stiff competition from Johor’s Aide Hamsyar Mohd Hairi, Muhammad Afiq Danial Suhaimi, and Muhammad Azriq Haszley in the early sets of the match.
They found their rhythm by the sixth set and maintained their winning momentum until the end.
Sarawak Lawn Bowls head coach Nur Fithri Yaani Hamdin praised her team’s resilience and skill in overcoming one of the strongest teams in the competition.
“Johor is one of the strong teams, but I’m thankful that our team put up a tough fight and managed to come out on top,” she told reporters at Sarawak Lawn Bowls Arena here, today.
She said the team would aim to maintain their momentum as they progress through the tournament.
“Our hope is that the journey in the Men’s Triple event continues smoothly. We aim to keep this winning streak going,” she said.
The team will be competing against Kelantan at 1 pm today, and Nur Fithri expressed confidence in her players.
“We hope they can maintain their performance and momentum in the next game,” she added.
Meanwhile, Awang Mohamad Sharszan Fyirman acknowledged that the match against Johor was intense, especially during the first three sets.
He also admitted that there were some shortcomings in their performance that need to be addressed and vowed to improve their technique in the next match.
“We managed to catch up on points, and by the final set, we succeeded.
“In the next round, we will face Kelantan, and we are hoping for another victory,” he said.
