SIBU: A lawyer jumped to his death from the 22nd floor of Wisma Sanyan here on Tuesday (Sept 7).
Police, having confirmed this, said the man was identified as 42-year-old Wee Wui Kiat.
District police chief ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit when contacted said the man was believed to be suffering from severe depression.
“Initial investigations found that the victim was believed to be suffering from depression, which caused him to commit such an act.
“We also discovered that he gotten divorced last month. His ex-wife, who is also a lawyer, works in Kuching.”
Wee, who was the Advocates Association of Sarawak (AAS) Sibu branch chairman, had a two-year-old daughter from his marriage.
Earlier at around 1.30pm, police, paramedics and firemen rushed to the scene after receiving public information that a man had jumped to his death.
Examinations by paramedics and the police found no signs of foul play at the scene.
Stanley said that the victim’s body was brought to Sibu Hospital for further action and the case was being classified as sudden death.
