KUCHING: More than RM10,000 worth of sponsorship were presented by Lea Group of Companies to Kelab Bola Sepak Sambir Bistari (KBSB) yesterday to hold the 52nd edition of the Asajaya Unity Football Tournament Cup. The tournament will held at the football field area of Kampung Sambir, in Asajaya, Kota samarahan from June 17 to July 1, 2018 where Minister for Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports, Datuk Haji Abdul; Karim Rahman Hamzah, who is also Asajaya Assemblyman will officiate at the closing ceremony.
The tournament being the most prestigious in Asajaya District and is also the oldest in Sarawak. The tournament started in the 1967 beginning with the Sambir Express Cup (1967-1987), Chief Minister Cup (1990-2003) and followed by the Unity Cup 2004 till now.
This year the football tournament in Sambir is into its 52nd edition and it is one of the platforms to unearth new talents. This is evidenced in the number of state players that the football tournament in Sambir had produced from the 80s and until now. Most of the 60 teams that take part in this tournament are teams from around Kuching, Samarahan, Sadong Jaya, Simunjan and Asajaya districts.
This year, KBSB in collaboration with Lea Sports Centre (LSC) and international brand Adidas as the main sponsor besides contribution of cash prizes from the Asajaya constituency while Asajaya Community Sports Club will provide opportunity and space to the participating teams to compete for the title in Sambir.
The prizes for tournament are in the forms of a Challenge trophy, an accompanying trophies, cash prizes totaling RM5,000 and prize vouchers totaling RM1,000 from Lea Sports Centre awaiting the champions of the tournament this time. KBSB also will come up with special prize for the ‘Top Scorer’ and the ‘Final Best Players with prizes in the form of prize vouchers, also from LSC.
Members of the public around Asajaya, Sadong Jaya, Samarahan and Kuching are welcome to witness the tournament which starts on June 17. At the handing over of the sponsorship held at Lea Sports Centre, Wisma Hopoh, here, yesterday, Lea Sports Centre Sdn Bhd was represented by its senior operation manager Poh Siok Hoon while KBSB was represented by its president and tournament organising chairman, Jalek Japar.
