DARO: In an effort to cultivate a reading culture among the community, Sarawak State Library Sibu branch has organised a Reading Programme with Sarawak Leaders at the Daro Community Hall on Wednesday (July 20).

The programme aimed to make leaders as reading icons as well as share knowledge and information among the community through reading.

According to a news report from Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS), the programme was officiated by Daro assemblyman Safiee Ahmad.

At the event, Safiee spent time presenting his favourite books besides sharing experiences and motivations to cultivate reading practices among students and the community.

He also visited educational exhibitions being held by Sarawak State Library, Community College and Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM).

Among the activities of the programme are the promotion of new library members, reading Seed (a reading encouragement programme from infancy) and also various STEAM activities (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics).

In his speech during the closing ceremony of Pertandingan Petanque Pendidikan Khas 2022 Daro District Level, he also said a new project, SK Hijrah Badong Open Hall which would be included in the list of Rural Transformation Projects (RTP) for 2023, was approved.

He also presented the contribution of the ‘Back To School Programme’ from the Daro Mainland Subdistrict Committee to 30 special needs students of SK Hijrah Badong and SMK Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Hajjah Normah.
