SIBU: The youth leaders of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) have been urged to learn from the Premier, who has extensive knowledge and a clear mission and has gained recognition for his leadership credibility on a global scale.
Its secretary-general Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said that the playing field for leaders is no longer confined to the local front but has expanded globally.
Nanta acknowledged the contributions of leaders who may not have had the opportunity to pursue higher education; however, he stressed the importance of extensive knowledge in achieving the best results as leaders.
“The Premier’s broad knowledge and clear and straightforward mission have opened the eyes of the world to his credibility as a leader, and I am proud to see how foreign countries are focusing on Sarawak.
“The line-up of leaders has also proven to have high knowledge and skills in governing this state,” he said when officiating at the PBB Youth Gawai Raya celebration here last night (June 24).
Nanta, who is also the Works Minister, also encouraged young leaders to use Abang Johari as a role model and take proactive steps to prepare themselves for future leadership roles.
He stressed that efforts and preparations should start now, as intellectual leaders are necessary not only for physical infrastructure development but also for navigating political changes in the country.
“I can say that under the leadership of Abang Jo, Sarawak has moved forward due to the stable and peaceful political environment here.
“We can focus on the development of new ideas and technologies such as hydrogen and algae development in Sarawak. All these are no longer just dreams but are being realised,” he said.
Nanta also said the successful expansion of infrastructure development through agencies like Betong Integrated Development Agency (BIDA), Ulu Rajang Development Agency (URDA), Highland Development Agency (HDA), Sri Aman Development Area (SADA), and Integrated Regional Samarahan Development Agency (IRSDA) has been made possible through state government allocations generated from various initiatives.
He stressed the importance of intelligent and forward-thinking local young people contributing to these efforts and emphasised that the future of the state and the country lies in the hands of its own people and cannot solely rely on external expertise.
Meanwhile, referring to data from Bank Negara, the Kapit Member of Parliament expressed concern over the projected global economic growth of only around three per cent until 2025; thus, he called for aggressive and proactive steps towards transitioning to a new economy aligned with technological advancements.
“This is not the time for us to continue playing politics. Young leaders need to step forward and provide a new direction and fresh perspective to ensure that all national plans can proceed smoothly.
“Let us all, as young leaders, embrace this challenge and become knowledgeable, highly educated leaders capable of bringing a paradigm shift to this state and country,” he said.
Also present were Nangka assemblyman Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee, Katibas assemblyman Lidam Assan, PBB Zone 9 Sibu Youth chief Johnny Sain, Temenggong Stanley Gramong Bandar, Temenggong Datuk Wan Hamid Edruce, and others.
