KUCHING: A Sarawakian delegation is on a fact-finding mission to China from Sept 18 to 24 to learn from the country’s expertise in sustainable smart city development.

The trip, led by Deputy Minister for Public Health, Housing, and Local Government Datuk Michael Tiang Ming Tee, began in Shanghai, visiting the Urban Planning Exhibition Centre to study the city’s transformation and sustainable development strategies.

“Shanghai’s approach to smart cities, which combines technology with a human-centered focus, is inspiring,” Tiang said in a statement.

“Their innovative urban management aligns well with Sarawak’s ambitions for sustainable growth and modern infrastructure.”

The group also visited the Shanghai Huangpu District Administrative Service Centre, where they observed a one-stop government services facility.

“The centre’s online and offline approach ensures efficiency and clarity for citizens and businesses,” he added.

At the Shanghai Smart City Development Research Institute, the delegation gained insights into China’s strategies for inclusive and purposeful smart city implementation.

They also met with Huawei’s senior management to discuss how emerging technologies can contribute to smart city development.
