MIRI : Assistant Minister of Tourism Datuk Lee Kim Shin yesterday visited various potential tourist spots (Bakam Point, Tusan Beach, Kampung Beraya Batu Satu, Kampung Bungai and Niah National Park) here.
Datuk Lee was accompanied by Miri Mayor Adam Yii, Lambir assemblyman Ripin Lamat, Assistant Minister of Solidarity Rosey Yunus, tourism players and heads of various government agencies involved in promoting tourism locally and overseas.
Speaking to reporters after visiting those places, Datuk Lee said “the RM5 million upgrading project of Tusan Beach should start as soon as possible.”
Tusan Beach located about 40 kilometres from Miri City becomes a popular destination not only among the locals but tourists from neighbouring Brunei and Indonesia after the appearence of “Blue Tears” a few years back.
Tusan locally known as ‘Krabi’ Malaysia has become the latest hotspot among the locals here; after a photographer captured the breath-taking scene and shared it on the social network.
Blue Tears is a stunning sight of glowing ocean waters with luminous special effects said to be found in places like Matsu Islands of Taiwan, Vaadhoo Beach on the island of Maldives as well as sites like the coastal beaches in USA, the Caribbean, Europe and Australia.
Datuk Lee said the upgrading should focus on basic facilities like electricity and water supply, hygienic food stalls and clean toilets.
“The project should be practical. We don’t want it to look beautiful on paper only but after a while it becomes a white elephant,” he added.
The RM5 Million allocation was announced by Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg last year during his visit to Tusan beach under the first phase to develop the beach area and considered for implementation during the mid-term review of 11th Malaysia Plan (11MP).
