PENRISSEN, Kuching: The federal government will continue to work with the state government to develop infrastructure facilities.
In giving this assurance Works Minister Baru Bian said towards this end the federal government has set up a special committee called the State Development Action Council for the purpose of studying, designing and implementing state development.
“I am entrusted by the prime minister to lead the council together with Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.
“Our direction is for development, I always mention less politicking but rather more efforts to develop the people…that’s our priority,” said Baru.
The Parti Keadilan Rakyat Sarawak chairman was officiating at the Majlis Pemimpin Bersama Rakyat of Puncak Borneo Constituency at Kampung Bratan.
Also present were Member of Parliament (MP) for Puncak Borneo Willie Mongin and MP for Saratok Ali Biju.
Baru went on to assure that as a Sarawakian he will try his best to bring big projects to the state.
“As a Sarawakian being appointed to become a federal minister, I will certainly use this opportunity to work hard with my colleagues to bring development to our beloved state.”
He further said Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad had approved building new roads in highlands areas, starting from Long Lama Baram to Sedumin Sabah, costing RM1.2 billion.
In addition, the federal government had also approved upgrading of the Jalan Datuk Musa in Kota Samarahan at a cost of RM243 million.
He said since becoming Works Minister he had received many complaints. “We will look into all these complaints and will act through two channels, namely the Public Works Department and the State Development Action Council,” he said.
