KUCHING: Celebrating Malaysia Day by rotating it among Malaya, Sabah and Sarawak will be viewed as the best step to further preserve the aspect of history, said Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi.
The Assistant Minister of Utilities (Water Supply) noted that it is undeniable that the Malaysia Day celebration gives more advantages to Sabah and Sarawak which involves their demands.
“However, it is not wrong if the celebration of this historic day is celebrated in other states so that the people in Peninsular Malaysia will have a better understanding of the said demands.
“Malaysia Day is for all Malaysians, so everyone needs to understand the true meaning of this historic day as Sabah and Sarawak are in fact still intact claiming the rights eroded in Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63),” he added
Recently, Tuaran MP Wilfred Madius Tangau raised a point that the Malaysia Day celebration should not be limited to Sabah and Sarawak.
Following this, two political analysts concurred on his view adding that there is a serious lack of awareness of Malaysia Day, particularly among those in the peninsular.
They believed that the lack of awareness in the peninsula was due to the absence of the major Malaysia Day celebration there.
