KUCHING: Grassroots leaders in Sarawak have been asked to alert the Ministry of Plantation and Commodities on smallholders affected by floods in the state.

Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said through agencies and companies, a corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme will be held to help ease the burden of smallholders, especially in terms of damaged plantation equipment.

“Therefore, for Sarawak, we expect the grassroots leadership and the community to inform us if there are smallholders in the commodity industry affected by floods in the state.

“For the programme carried out in Johor, the affected smallholders have been identified and aid will be distributed after the flood has subsided,” he told reporters this, today.

The Petra Jaya MP said the aid is for the plantation sector involving pepper, cocoa, rubber, palm oil and others.

“This assistance is also provided through agencies and bodies involved in the CSR programme we run,” he said.
