MIRI: A ‘Let’s Drink Plain Water’ campaign was launched here on Wednesday (April 20), aimed to create public awareness towards healthy lifestyle.

The campaign was launched by Sarawak Health Department deputy director Dr Rosmawati Ariffin at Masjid At-Taqwa.

Dr Rosmawati, in her address, said the campaign urged the public to live healthily, including exercising, quitting smoking and reducing the consumption of sugary beverages.

“Drink at least eight glasses of water a day to stay hydrated. Plain water is a great choice. Avoid sweetened beverages.”
Prior to the launch, a forum on quitting smoking was also held.

“We also encourage light, moderate and heavy smokers to stop smoking because it opens them up to the risk of developing diseases such as lung cancer and many more.”

Several booths on health and the dangers of smoking were also set up during the event.

Also present were Miri Hospital director Dr Jack Wong and Miri Division health officer Dr Raviwharmman Packierisamy.
