KUCHING: Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Jemut Masing has called upon all MPs irrespective of what their political affiliations are, to put aside their differences and get behind the newly appointed Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
In congratulating Ismail Sabri for his appointment, Masing said the prime minister has a very heavy task cut out for him.
“He needs to bring back the divided house into one solid force to battle Covid-19, the deadly virus which has killed hundreds and caused untold miseries to Malaysians,” he said.
He pointed out that Ismail Sabri was legitimately elected by 114 MPs out of the possible 220 MPs.
“He may not be your choice to be our prime minister, you don’t have much of a choice.
“Let’s give him a chance in the next 20 months to be our commander-in-chief and fight this dreaded Covid-19.
“Once Covid-19 is contained, we can return to normalcy. Then, if we wish, we can elect a peace time prime minister through the normal democratic process,” he told New Sarawak Tribune when contacted today (Aug 20).
The Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) president said it was critical for everyone to get together and fight the virus.
“Ismail Sabri is untested as a prime minister. We all know that. But, please don’t test his ability to govern by betraying people’s trust in him.
“He is legally elected via our elected representatives. Give him a chance. His past records showed him to be a dedicated minister, hard working, friendly and an honest person,” he said.
Above all else, Masing said Ismail Sabri is very loyal to the party which nominated him to stand during the 14th general election, in an era where betraying of voters’ trust was not of prime importance by the elected representatives.
“Ismail Sabri stands tall. Please give this honest and loyal party man a chance to lead us,” he said.
